St. Patricks Day

When is St Patricks Day this year?

The tradition of St. Patrick's Day is one steeped with Irish tradition and has been adopted by non-Irish people all over the world. But when is St. Patricks Day or sometimes called St. Paddy's Day celebrated?

St. Patricks Day is generally Celebrated on March 17.

This year, depending on where you live you will be able to celebrate the magic of St. Patricks Day in your area on Sunday March 16th, 2008. You should check your local events calendars to see if there are any St. Patricks Day parades happening in your town. Participating in a St. Patricks Day parade is great fun, it is one of the best ways to reconnect with your community, form new friendships and spend time with your family. Being a spectator in an Irish St Paddy's Day parade is also great fun, and a lot of people decide to take a trip to Ireland during this time to witness the Irish festivities first hand. If you can?t make it out to one of the more traditional Irish parades in the mother country or Ireland, you can still experience a taste of the Irish culture and zest by attending local parades in your area or nearby cities.

So how will you choose to celebrate St. Patricks Day? There are many options in addition to the traditional St. Paddy day parades. For example you could organize a big St. Patricks Day party with all of your friends and award door prizes for those people wearing the most green clothing. Similarly you could attend a St Patricks Day bash at a local club or Irish Pub with all of your closest friends. You will often get to partake in drinking green beer. It has always been a wonder to me exactly how it is possibly to dye beer green, but I say we leave that magic trick to the Irish.

Of course St. Patty's day is not just about drinking and adult activities. St Patricks Day is also a great and fun day for children of all ages. You can spend time making shamrock shaped cookies with your children and sprinkle a few green decorative candy pieces on top. You could also visit the rest of this site to find out more about Ireland, Irish history and the history behind St Patricks Day. Making a fun green holiday even more fun by adding educational portions of the day will ensure your kids know why St Patricks Day is celebrated the world over by people of all cultures and races.

Best of all St. Patricks Day is a time for you to reconnect with nature itself: after all St. Patricks Day focuses on the lucky color green! So go outside, look at how beautiful nature is, the blossoming flowers, the awakening leaves and budding flower buds. Smell the fresh air of spring, reconnect with nature and feel good about yourself and the beautiful planet that we live on today. Happy St. Patricks Day!
